The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to save the Britain's small live music spots.

The star was given the prize on 16 October as his new release People Watching was named the outstanding release of the past year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part grassroots venues fulfilled in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, raising over £100k on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The money helped locations that were confronting possible closure due to issues stemming from floods, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in improving amenities and gear that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

Also the 1994 recipients they gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the illness.

"Winning was ample," stated singer Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had saved a couple of local spots in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

The first in the city and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership program, which is funded by a national body and supporters who buy "stakes" in the properties.
