An extensive 60-day cruise through Australia is being halted days after the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the group for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the crew discovered the lady was missing.

A large-scale hunt located her remains the next day.

Authorities are examining the incident, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer said that guests and crew on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier technical problems".
